Carrier Ethernet in the Rural Markets Video
|

Carrier Ethernet in the Rural Markets video discusses the applicability of Carrier Ethernet to rural markets, using both existing copper and/or new fiber infrastructure. This allows carriers to provide services to rural areas that are comparable to what can be found in urban area. The discussion points out how rural carriers are closer to their subscribers and are much faster to move to solutions than larger entities. Click here to view the video

Service Providers are awarded annually in North America, Asia-Pacific and EMEA. Announcement of finalists will take place Wednesday, September 17, 2008. The MEF Certification Program has continued its steady growth each week throughout the year and has now reached a total of 87 service providers and equipment manufacturers and 400+ certificates. The formal publication of MEF 6.1 Ethernet Services Definitions Phase 2 is now available on the MEF web site, together with an updated version of the Powerpoint overview of MEF 6.1 and MEF 10.1. MEF 6.1 includes definitions of new services. Click here for the MEF Technical Specifications page, which contains both documents. (6/23/08) MEF 6.1 was ratified in the MEF Atlanta quarterly meeting.

A big month for new MEF Content
|

 |
A substantial amount of new content has been added to the MEF web site. Two new topics are addressed. A Mobile Backhaul reference presentation (37 slides) covers marketing and technical issues and previews the MEF Mobile Backhaul Implementation Agreement. This is accompanied by a new White Paper: Carrier Ethernet Access for Mobile Backhaul Networks and by a new version of the MEF Certification Program presentation, updated with information on MEF 18 which supports the mobile backhaul initiative. See also the new Mobile Backhaul web page launched this month.
A new 50 slide presentation on Carrier Ethernet for Business has also been added which examines the markets, application and user benefits and is geared to the Enterprise and business end user visitors to the site.
In addition, several other reference presentations have new content and presentations from four conferences have been added including first time materials on GPON, latest on E-NNI and an up-to-date Standards review. These can all be checked out on the MEF Presentations page.

Interoperability Showcase

In support of the Mobile Backhaul initiatives listed above and below, MEF Member, EANTC in collaboration with and sponsored by 15 MEF member companies created the 2008 Mobile Backhaul Interoperability Showcase as the first practical example of this initiative. The event is co-located in Berlin and on-site at the MPLS and Ethernet World Congress, Paris, 2/08, the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, 2/08, and CTIA Wireless, Las Vegas, 4/08. Carrier Ethernet World Congress (Sept 24th - Sept 28th)
The MEF's principal European began on Monday 24th September at the Intercontinental Hotel in Geneva, Switzerland with a well-attended full day MEF Workshop.
Other MEF contributions were presented later in the week. The Event also featured the MEF's Carrier Ethernet European Service Provider of the Year awards presented on Tuesday Sept, 25th.
